Competency Development

An organization's vision, mission and business strategy define what it needs to do to be successful within a constantly changing external environment. While this is a great start, it is certainly no guarantee of success. The reality is this: it takes people to operationalize the business plan and to charter the right course of action to achieve key strategic objectives.

The People Strategy of an organization defines and articulate the behaviours needed by all people at all levels to ensure the organization achieves its desired results and fosters the appropriate culture. There are essential leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours (or competencies), as well as other knowledge, skills and behaviours (or competencies) that differentiate high performers at all levels and within all job families.

Through research and consulting projects, HRP has developed a generic list of competencies are common to a wide range of organizations in all industry groups.

In our consulting activities, we use the HRP Database of Behavioural Competencies as a starting point in working with clients to develop competencies that are unique and specific to their culture, business, industry and operational needs.

These competencies serve as a framework for key Human Resource programs such as:

  • Interviewing and selection
  • Performance management
  • Succession Planning
  • 360 Degree Feedback
  • Training and Development
